Ingredients:

  • 3/4 lb uncooked shrimp (prawns)
  • 1/2 tsp tumeric
  • chillie powder to taste
  •  2 tsp ground cummin seeds
  •  2 tsp sri lankan curry powder or garam masala
  •  salt to taste
  •  2 pieces of goraka (gambooge rind dried http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambooge) smashed
  • 1" piece cinnamon
  •  1 tsp vinegar
  •  1 red onion finely sliced
  • 8 oz canned coconut milk
  • 4 oz water
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp dill (fenugreek) seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves

Method:

Shell and wash the shrimp. Add the tumeric, chillie power, ground cummin, curry powder, salt, goraka, cinnamon, vinegar, half of the onions, coconut milk and water to the shrimp and mix.

Heat the oil in a medium saucepan and fry the remaining onion, dill seeds, and curry leaves until fragrant. Add the shrimp mixture and cook until shrimp are done.
